What is the LDI?

Welcome to the 2022 Virtual Leadership Development Institute (LDI)! The LDI is a leadership development program aimed at helping each of you grow as leaders and as people.

The LDI is all about building skills to lead from the inside-out, so it will help you deepen your understanding of who you are, what you value, and how to manifest that in the world around you in clear, authentic, and influential ways. You will walk away from the LDI with greater:

  • Self-Awareness of your feelings, thoughts, beliefs, and values
  • Vision for the life you want to live and the impact you want to have on others
  • Empathy for those around you -- both how to access it and how to demonstrate it
  • Ability to Inspire others through your words and actions

How will the virtual LDI work?

The LDI learning process takes place in two phases:

  1. Phase 1: Online coursework & self-reflection - From June 13 - July 3, with the aid of online videos created by our LDI team, you will complete a series of reflection exercises to gain greater insight into yourself and your leadership.
  2. Phase 2: Virtual group meetings - From July 5 - August 12, you will meet virtually three times with the same group of other 2022 Coke Scholars and one Coke Scholar alum facilitator to discuss and deepen your insights from Phase 1.

Phase 1: June 13 - July 3

Review the recording of the June 13 Kick-Off meeting to see what you missed (or to relive the fun!)

After the kick-off meeting, please create a copy of this Scholar Workbook file in your own Google Drive (Steps: 1. Sign into your Google account → 2. Open the file → 3. Click “File” → “Make a copy”). Treat this Workbook as your personal LDI journal, and use it as you go through the three sections of the LDI curriculum in the menu above.

Important deadlines:

Phase 2: July 5 - August 12

During Phase 1, you will be contacted by a Coke Scholar alumnus who will serve as your small group facilitator for Phase 2. This alum will coordinate three separate 90-minute virtual meetings for you and the other 2022 Scholars in your group. These meetings should take place between July 5 - August 12, 2022. These three meetings are an opportunity to get to know a handful of your fellow 2022 Scholars and to dive deeper into the learning you do in Phase 1.

If you have any questions about how the virtual LDI works, please contact Jamie Williams, Director of Scholarships.

LDI Team

The Leadership Development Institute would not happen without leaders who have paved the way planning the curriculum, evaluations and everything else in between. We owe a great deal of gratitude to Michael Terrell and Corey Dysick.

Michael Terrell is a San Francisco-based executive coach who helps startup leaders grow as executives and as human beings. His work is all about getting people to look at themselves to figure out how to better connect with and lead others. He counts his lucky stars that he has gotten to carry that passion to startup leaders around the world – from Silicon Valley, to Melbourne, to Berlin, to Paris, and back again. Michael is an Advanced T-Group Facilitator for the Interpersonal Dynamics course at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and is the co-author of a book on leadership development called The Inside-Out Effect. When Michael’s not coaching, you can find him trekking through the Bay Area with his Australian Shepherd, Charlie, reliving the glory days on a nearby basketball court, or belting along to his latest Spotify playlist.

Corey DysickCorey Dysick is a Regional Director at BetterUp, a training company that helps leaders have better conversations with their people. A BetterUp approach is fundamentally about believing in the capability of others, making it safe to explore new ideas, and asking quality questions. Corey is passionate about coaching, performance management, and youth leadership development. He holds a degree in Human Biology with a concentration in Psychology and Physiology from Stanford University. Corey loves water skiing, snow skiing, rock climbing, pretending to be Harry Potter, and general goofiness.
