PRC Reading and Rating Process
All readers will be placed into a team of three readers. There will be 10 teams, and each team will be responsible for all reading and scoring for one Selection District.
All submitted Semifinalist applications will be assigned to all three readers the week of Nov. 11. You will read and rate applications online using our Reader Portal.
PACING YOURSELF WHILE READING
Every application will be reviewed by each of the three committee members. With each reader conducting a total of approximately 130 reads over the anticipated reading time, that means you have about 7-9 minutes per application. Some will take considerably less.
AS YOU READ APPLICATIONS
- Use the scoring guidelines and criteria guidelines to help you in your final ratings.
- Record comments in the scoring form that appears on the right side of an application. We also encourage you to download the list of all assigned applications to take notes OUTSIDE of the Readers portal. Your notes will be extremely important as you move through the remote reading process, especially to refresh your memory of applications read earlier in the process. Past readers have found it useful to review their comments at the end of the process as a reminder of why they rated an applicant as they did.
- Enter a score for each section within the defined point range.
- After entering all scores, make a final recommendation of "Definitely a Coke Scholar" or "Not a Coke Scholar" and submit the form.
"Definitely a Coke Scholar" - These applicants should meet all or almost all of the criteria at high levels. They present outstanding elements that clearly set them apart from the other applicants.
"Not a Coke Scholar" - These applicants do not meet all of the selection criteria at high levels. Any applicants you consider a "maybe" or that you otherwise hesitate to advance should be submitted as "Not a Coke Scholar." Remember, you have two partners helping to assess applicants.
YOUR FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Each SD committee will rank order 20 Semifinalists to be considered to advance as Regional Finalists.
In the event that your SD does not score 20 Semifinalists with at least two "Definitely a Coke Scholar" recommendations during the reading process, your team may advance applications for consideration by changing at least one final decision of "Not a Coke Scholar" to "Definitely a Coke Scholar" on the appropriate Score Form. This will bring those applications to the Finalist list and allow everyone to review and consider these applications.
